RideKC Freedom Facing More Demand and Longer Wait Times

We are currently experiencing a sharp increase in paratransit trips. A shortage of drivers during the pandemic has caused our contractors to struggle to make service consistently. Many of you are experiencing long wait times during peak hours.

Safety is our highest priority. We have made modifications to our social distancing protocols in order to accommodate the increased demand. In the coming weeks, more drivers will return to work and our contractors will hire more drivers. These measures should help shorten wait times.

RideKC has several alternatives for our customers who need paratransit services.

Freedom On-Demand - This option offers same day service getting you where you need to go, when you need to get there. Freedom On-Demand is a curb-to-curb service for a fee. You can download the Freedom On-Demand app and request a taxi with no advance reservation required. Freedom On-Demand is also experiencing longer wait times. However, you can track your ride with your smartphone or tablet. No smartphone? No problem! Call 816-842-9070 to book a trip.

Fixed-route transit – Our fixed-route transit is currently Zero-Fare. Fixed-route transit offers ADA accommodations for customers who use a mobility device. This transit option is comparable in travel time to our RideKC Freedom trips. You can plan your trip and track your bus using the Transit App or by contacting the Regional Call Center at 816-221-0660.
